1stAmbuPort is always looking for caring, dedicated people to join our team of Medical Attendants.  We are filling both full-time and part-time positions.  Our Medical Attendants work in two-person crews, transporting hospital patients and others who require transportation by stretcher on a non-emergency basis.  Most calls involve transfers to/from hospitals, nursing homes or retirement homes.  While most transfers are bed-to-bed, we also carry patients from one floor to another, using stair chairs.  Attendants are expected to monitor patients, and to provide written and verbal reports daily, or when necessary.

1stAmbuPort is specifically seeking applicants with either previous patient-transfer experience or at least Basic CPR & First Aid and either your EFR/EMR or completion of your first year in a recognized Paramedic Program.  Successful candidates must have a clean driver’s abstract and be free of any criminal convictions.  Applicants must be in good physical health, and have the strength to lift and carry patients on stretchers and stair chairs.

An “F” class driver’s licence is mandatory.

All 1stAmbuPort employees who work directly with patients require one of the following certifications:


    • A-EMCA (PCP) – Advanced Emergency
      Medical Care Assistant (Primary Care Paramedic)
    • EMT – Emergency Medical Technician
    • EFR – Emergency First Responder
    • EMR – Emergency Medical Responder
    • MFR – Medical First Responder

1stAmbuPort’s Hiring Requirements:

Must have a valid Driver’s License ( F)

Driver’s Abstract/Criminal Search

Proof of Immunization

Up-to-date CPR-C & First Aid Certificates

Various Proof of identity & Citizenship

All other Certificates related to Medical Attendant Position.

We provide orientations for new staff, including proper stretcher use, proper lifting procedures, including stair chair.  We require staff to sign our extensive Policy & Procedures Manual, which we update annually, and to participate in ongoing performance reviews.

Our employee training programs and ongoing requirements are equally rigorous.  New employees must pass our in-house training program & our in-house driving Pre-test .

It is the responsibility of each Employee to maintain his or her qualifications through regular training sessions, updated CPR certifications, AED defibrillation re-certification, police clearance (every two years for attendants and drivers abstract through the ministry as well as, EMR / EFR EMT / MFR recertification (every three years), and / or RN / RPN / HCP registration and certification annually.

A copy of all immunizations must be provided upon request — a TB test is also required annually. In some cases, a specialty driver's licence is also a requirement for our attendants.
